Understanding The Untaught Story Of Afro-Latinos In The Americas

Latinos of African descent play an integral role in shaping the culture in the Americas. From food to music, the African influence is palpable and is well integrated into daily living. However, some may argue that the Afro-Latino culture and experience is not as celebrated as it should.

“There’s a mis-education  of the African experience in the Americas”, says Dr. Marta Moreno Vega, an instructor who established the Caribbean Cultural Center Africa Diaspora Institute (CCCADI).

“I think that for the most part in the United States, it is couched around the African-American US experience. But what’s left out is that more than 150 million African descendants live in the Caribbean, Central America and Latin America.”

The documentary, “Afro-Latinos: The Untaught Story”, explores the disparities and conversations that exist around black identity  in the Americas.
