Joseph Marie Nga Ayissi is a French/Cameroonian fashion designer who creates very chic street wear and has worn designs that have been donned by celebrities including Ivorian footballer Koffi Christian N’dri (Romaric), British songwriter, musician & producer Wayne Beckford and singer Bedaya Singuila N’Garoest.
The concepts of his brand, Wazal Couture are based on criteria which have been the highlight of his career: Daring, Respect and Creativity. Wazal’s cuts and designs reflect street style that provides a perfect transition from serious to casual in a matter of minutes.
From a very young age, Ayissi often worked with his hands, and found that he was a better fit for a manual trades that involved both the use of his hands and his creative imagination. The son of a tailor, he decided to launch his fashion brand to fulfill his passions, follow his dream of becoming an entrepreneur and pay tribute to his father.
He went through professional training in Paris and specialized in the creation of uniquely designed tuxedo jackets — which has become the brand’s signature look. The first was created in 2013 under the Fly Tete collection, which he debuted at the Elysee Palace in Paris as a guest of the Ambassador of Cameroon to Paris.
The brand’s name is an adaptation of Cameroon’s Waza National Park and the letter L for Lion, which is the country’s national emblem. Wazal Couture styles for men, with a little something for women under the Wazalionne collection. But as the brand evolves, Ayissi looks forward to developing a collection that will also focus on children.
