Her name is Lieutenant Commander Zimasa Mabela, and the South African mother of two has officially shattered the naval glass ceiling, leading the way for more women to take over commanding navy vessels. Mabela joined the South African navy in 1999 as a telecommunications radio official and rose through the ranks. The South African reported that she hopes to be judged only on her ability to command, and not her gender.
